Passivation

QQ-P-35 ASTM A380-96, Type II, IV, VII and VIII

Passivation is a process that removes and dissolves iron particles and foreign materials imbedded into the surface of stainless steel. Passivation dissolves contaminants by immersing the stainless steel in a nitric acid solution leaving the surface with a thin, transparent passive film. It is an exception surface preparation for further plating and painting treatments.
